The rise of the Internet and our ability to access vast information troves as well as communicate with an increasingly diverse set of devices has led to a renewed emphasis on improving the performance, scalability, reliability, and security of the modern networks on which we now depend so much.
It has also led to the emergence of a vast array of new problems that arise simply because of the availability of ubiquitous connectivity, e.g., understanding how social networks can contribute to and influence the dissemination of information.
